While credit cards are the most commonly used payment method for online shopping globally, 83% people in India prefer cash on delivery (COD) over other modes of payment, a Nielson survey said.
- Around the world, credit cards are the most commonly used payment method. More than half of online respondents prefer credit cards (53%).
- 43% respondents prefer digital payment system like PayPal or AliPay. While 39% used debit cards, 38% opted for direct debit from their bank account.
- Digital analytics firm eMarketer projects that online retail sales will more than double between 2015 and 2019 and account for more than 12% of global sales by 2019.
- Cash on Delivery is a popular option in developing markets like Nigeria (76%), the Phillipines (73%), Russia (70%).
- 57% of online respondents in the survey say they purchased from an e-tailer outside their country's border in the past six months.
- Nearly half of online respondents in the study (49%) say they shop online to get grocery products they can't find in physical stores.
- More than half (57%) of online respondents say they have doubts that e-commerce sites will keep their personal information secure and confidential.
